Emergency Services

San Francisco Bay Group 2 has a long and proud history of Emergency Services excellence.  Our Emergency Services website has no history, so please be patient as we build an excellent website.  Emergency Services is one of Civil Air Patrol's three primary missions:

Always prepared, both in the air and on the ground, members of the Civil Air Patrol perform emergency services for state and local agencies as well as the federal government as the civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and for states/local communities as a nonprofit organization. Ever vigilant, these true patriots make a difference in their communities, not only to assist in times of disaster but also to search for the lost and protect the homeland.

General Emergency Services (GES)

The General Emergency Services (GES) rating is your gateway to Civil Air Patrol's Emergency Services missions.  GES has two prerequisites:

  1. Complete Level I (Senior Members) or earn the Curry Award (Cadets)
  2. Complete CAP Test 116: GES Questionnaire in the CAP Learning Management System (access requires CAP membership and an eServices account)

These prerequisites can be accomplished in any order.

CAP Test 116: GES Questionnaire covers the basics of Emergency Services operations and funding as detailed in CAP Regulations 60-3: CAP Emergency Services Training and Operational Missions and 173-3: Payment for Mission Support.  While every CAP member should be familiar with the details of these regulations, the regulations can be overwhelming and intimidating to new members just starting in Emergency Services.

Presentations

1st Lt Richard West (Commander, San Jose Senior Squadron 80) presented GES to the cadets of John J. Montgomery Memorial Cadet Squadron 36 on 25 Feb 2020.  The purpose is to provide an introduction to Emergency Services as well as cover the material for the test as an adjunct to familiarizing oneself to the regulations.  A PDF copy of the material presented can be found in the documents listed in the sidebar.
