Woodland Hills, CA - October 21, 2023 - The 2023 California Wing conference witnessed a significant moment as San Francisco Bay Group 2 conducted a change of command between outgoing commander Lieutenant Colonel Shawn Lawson and incoming commander Major Richard West.

Mill Valley, CA. (May 13, 2023) – Civil Air Patrol (CAP) California Wing is leading an effort to better support all members in their moral and spiritual welfare, and better provide guidance on CAP’s core values to them by focusing on recruiting additional chaplains, especially from underrepresented groups. Starting off this effort are a series of visits by National Headquarters Recruiter for Jewish Affairs, CAP Chaplain (Maj.) Dovid Grossman accompanied by Pacific Coast Region Chaplain (Maj.) Michael Morison and California Wing Chaplain (Maj.) Annamae Taubeneck.

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. (March 24, 2022) – Civil Air Patrol cadet Adithya Patil of Jon E. Kramer Composite Squadron 10 in Palo Alto, California earned the highest cadet honor last week when he became only the 2,388th cadet in Civil Air Patrol history to receive the General Carl A. Spaatz Award which also comes with a promotion to Cadet Colonel.
On Jan 5, 2022, Civil Air Patrol completed a new round of Windy Radar flights for the FAA and USAF.These flights are crucial in developing a plan to mitigate the interference and clutter created by wind turbines located in close proximity to Travis AFB.
Civil Air Patrol Takes to the Skies to exercise their Airborne Public Address System
In the rugged Northern California coast beachgoers arrive at a beach, blissfully unaware that an earthquake has struck 400 miles off the coast causing a tsunami that will be inbound within hours. Meanwhile hikers in a remote coastal area are also unaware of the danger of the approaching tsunami. The National Weather Service has initiated the Emergency Alert System to alert residents, but some beachgoers, hikers, and residents along the shore will miss those alerts.
Aircrew from across Group 2 spooled up February 5, 2022, to support a long-standing partner of CAP, California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA). CARDA’s mission is to train, certify, and deploy highly-qualified search dog teams to assist law enforcement and other public safety agencies in the search for lost and missing persons. CARDA is the largest and most geographically dispersed of the three search dog groups in California that are direct resources of the State of California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). CARDA provides search dog services to all public service agencies at no charge.
